The Land of Stories:
The Enchantress Returns
After reading the first book in the series when I was at my grandmother’s place and having enjoyed it thoroughly I was eager read the second book in the series. So, as soon as I got back home I requested my mother to order its next part, which is called ‘The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns’. It was first published in the year 2013 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. The book is a little longer than 500 pages and its genre is adventure fantasy.
The characters in this book are the twins Alex and Conner Bailey who are the protagonists, Froggy, Jack and Goldilocks, their friends, princesses like Cindrella, Snow White, Red riding hood and Rapunzel and the Prince Charmings, ¬¬the twins’ grandmother or the fairy godmother, their mother, Mother goose, and the Enchantress, who is the antagonist.
‘The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns’ sees the twins Alex and Conner a year older and getting on with their lives in the normal world. They have prepared a surprise party for their mother but she doesn’t come back for a very long time. Then some strange people show up at thir house and tell that they have orders to guard them. They soon get to know their mother is kidnapped by Ezmia, the enchantress who cursed sleeping beauty. They once again find themselves drawn into the fairy tale world, though this time when they arrive they find that the kingdom is in turmoil and the people are living in fear. Rumpelstiltskin has broken out of prison and rejoined his old partner in crime, Cinderella's baby daughter has been snatched from her bed, and wild vines have all but destroyed Sleeping Beauty's kingdom - all events that herald the return of the long ago banished Evil Enchantress.
The only way to stop the Evil Enchantress is to create a magical wand by collecting some items. Alex and Conner along with their friends set out on a quest to gather all the items they require to create the Wand of Wonderment – their only hope of winning against such a powerful opponent.
Will Alex and Conner and their team of friends be able to defeat the Evil Enchantress and get their mother back?
The book is written by Chris Colfer. He is an American singer, actor and writer. He is one of the younger talents in writing. His most appreciated book series is ‘The land of stories’ series.
I note that Colfer's writing style has improved since the first book in the series, but it is his ideas and the twists and turns that he weaves through the well know traditional fairy tales, that make me coming back for more. I loved the book. It is one of my favourite in the series and I have already read it twice. I liked the parts when Alex and Conner had to face a witch or a villain to get the items. But I felt the story could have been a little shorter by cutting a few parts.
For those who read this book and like it, the next book in the series is ‘The land of stories: A grimm warning’. The whole series contains six books.
